To explain further, I needed to make these wines, I needed to express myself in a new and different way, I wanted to create something completely amazing and new that could be presented to you, a wine you would fall in love with and at a price point which would allow it to be enjoyed at more regular intervals…such as morning, noon and night on any day ending in a Y.
For over a decade I have not created any red wines other than Hundred Acre itself. I have been asked to consult all over the planet as a winemaker, huge money has been offered, I have refused in every case.
I feel I owe all of my time and all of my effort to you, on behalf of Hundred Acre. However, deep inside, and after years had passed since I retired the first Fortunate Son, I felt I owed you something more, something magical like Hundred Acre in many ways…but different.
It took a long time for me to come around to what I was surely destined to do. The many requests from our clients and considerable nagging from my wife (who basically is Olympic class at that type of thing), gently led me back to the lovely small family vineyards I have always thought about. I have wondered “what if I gave my all to those little jewel vineyards?” Truthfully, I would like to buy all these vineyards for Fortunate Son, but those families will never sell, and I don’t blame them one bit.
I do want to be clear on one thing: Hundred Acre is ALL SINGLE VINEYARD. Of the Fortunate Son wines, only The Warrior is single vineyard, and that is why the price is what it is.
The two other wines are comprised of selected blocks from small vineyards that I have watched for 20+ years. I trust these vineyards; their quality is unquestionable. You all know you can trust me; the Vineyards and selected blocks are perfectly matched…so long as you love dark power and elegance.
These wines are all brooding, elegant weapons, seductive and haunting, they will get your full attention and your love and become an integral part of your cellar’s strength.
I feel I owe all of my time and all of my effort to you, on behalf of Hundred Acre. However, deep inside, and after years had passed since I retired the first Fortunate Son, I felt I owed you something more, something magical like Hundred Acre in many ways… but different.
