A combination of varietals that create power, intricacy and elegance combined. The wine is dark and rich and is not for the faint of heart, if you are looking for a light table wine, go away, quickly… This wine for me is the ultimate wine to serve at a party, a dinner and any gathering as without exception everyone loves it. People that have every reason to embrace its super star abilities, the wine just kicks ass on ALL FRONTS.

Vintage Notes

The 2023 growing season was defined by a cool spring, and a long summer growing season, free of excessive heat. Abundant winter rainfall replenished soils and reservoirs, leading to a mild spring that delayed budbreak and flowering. Summer temperatures remained moderate, allowing for slow, even ripening and exceptional flavor development. The absence of prolonged heat spikes preserved natural acidity while extending hang time, resulting in wines with remarkable balance and complexity.

Vineyard Notes

Sourced from small, family vineyards, (in some cases for 3-4 generations) that are farmed with great care and attention. These vineyards (some are 80+ years old) have been brought together, actually woven together, so the magical fruit could at last become Fortunate Son.

Cooperage

Aged for 35 months in 100% new French oak. We only use the finest French oak barrique with stave wood that is hand-selected for ultra-tight grain, then air dried for three years before being made into barrels.

Tasting Notes

The 2023 The Diplomat races out with notes of warm cassis, plum preserves, and spice box, giving way to hints of menthol and pencil shavings. The full-bodied palate is dense with juicy black fruit layers, supported by plush tannins and a refreshing line, finishing long with a minty lift. The Diplomat is what the government calls a “Red Wine” as it is a combination of varietals and what I refer to as a 21st Century Claret, which apparently you cannot call it due to some EU bullshit that Washington idiots agreed to with the French bureaucratic heathen. Never-the-Less the wine is power, intricacy and elegance combined.
