My son Cameron, who has been promoted (after many years of hard work) to Assistant Winemaker for Fortunate Son, blended the wine called The Visionary. I am saving a lot of this wine for my cellar as it is that good. He has the gift.

Vintage Notes

The 2022 growing season was truly special, with plenty of winter rain to fill our reservoirs, and abundant sunshine and heat through the summer months. An unusual late season rain washed the dust off the berries, starting a gentle cooling trend that set us up perfectly for the final ripening push in the Fall. We hang fruit on the vine longer than most, and the weather conditions in 2022 allowed us time to push that envelope to the limit, resulting in wines with an intense fruit expression, and a full-bodied core.

Vineyard Notes

Sourced from small, family vineyards, (in some cases for 3-4 generations) that are farmed with great care and attention. These vineyards (some are 80+ years old) have been brought together, actually woven together, so the magical fruit could at last become Fortunate Son. A portion of the fruit also comes from our Estate Vineyard, True Romance.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Cooperage

Aged for 35 months in 100% new French oak. We only use the finest French oak barrique with stave wood that is hand-selected for ultra-tight grain, then air dried for three years before being made into barrels.

Tasting Notes

The 2022 Visionary opens with a powerful aromatic sequence of dark cherry, bacon smoke and warm chocolate mousse, all mingling with notes of fresh strawberry and tomato leaf. A powerful mineral layer of crushed granite provides depth and balance, while on the palate, the wine is broad and refined. The mid-palate unfolds with both richness and spice, framed by delicately interlaced tannins that provide a sense of weight and refinement. The 2022 Visionary is remarkable in its maturity and versatility, drinkable today in its youth, and yet age-worthy well into the future.
