Vintage Notes

The 2022 growing season was truly special, with plenty of winter rain to fill our reservoirs, and abundant sunshine and heat through the summer months. An unusual late season rain washed the dust off the berries, starting a gentle cooling trend that set us up perfectly for the final ripening push in the Fall. We hang fruit on the vine longer than most, and the weather conditions in 2022 allowed us time to push that envelope to the limit, resulting in wines with an intense fruit expression, and a full-bodied core.

Vineyard Notes

Sourced from small, family vineyards, (in some cases for 3-4 generations) that are farmed with great care and attention. These vineyards (some are 80+ years old) have been brought together, actually woven together, so the magical fruit could at last become Fortunate Son.

95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 2% Petit Sirah

Cooperage

Aged for 35 months in 100% new French oak. We only use the finest French oak barrique with stave wood that is hand-selected for ultra-tight grain, then air dried for three years before being made into barrels.

Tasting Notes

The 2022 Chronos displays a wonderfully savory aromatic profile, opening with notes of capsicum spice, saddle leather, and a touch of brown sugar. Layered atop a mineral core, the aromatics are enhanced by delicate hints of melon and flower petals, which bring brightness and lift, while adding contrast to the darker, earthier base tones. On the palate, the wine is luscious in texture, with grippy tannins derived from both grape skin and French oak barrels. The interplay of spice, fruit, and earth builds in intensity across the mid-palate, before unfolding into a long, resonant finish.
